Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is the main ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound

What is Tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is the first of it’s kind, dual-action peptide that mimics both GLP-1 (glucagon  like peptide 1) and GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide). It works similarly to semaglutide by signaling our brain to tell us we are full, slows down the digestive process to keep us fuller longer, and helps to lower blood sugar levels. Studies show that compared to semaglutide, patients on tirzepatide lose even more weight.

As of 10/02/2024, the FDA removed tirzepatide injection from its drug shortage list. The generic compounded version is no longer available. However, our clinic is still able to provide tirzepatide in a sublingual form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tirzepatide can cause mild side effects like upset stomach, acid reflux, fatigue, thirst, and frequent urination. It is important to stay hydrated on this medication and our clinic will slowly titrate your dose up to therapeutic levels and minimize side effects.

The exact amount of weight you can lose on tirzepatide is dependent on a variety of factors like genetics, diet, lifestyle. Many patients do see more substantial weight loss on injectable tirzepatide and can lose up to 20% of their body fat. However, the sublingual form of tirzepatide has not been adequately studied and may not be as effective. The sublingual formulation is recommended only if you cannot have the injectable form.

Sublingual tirzepatide dissolves under the tongue, which means your body absorbs it faster than injection. The sublingual formulation does not need to be refrigerated, giving patients more flexibility with storage options and providing more convenience. It also offers the opportunity for a more customizable dosage plan than with the injection.
